Inspired by a beloved children’s show, JING EN began learning the Dizi in Primary 1, joining her school’s Chinese Orchestra and enrolling in the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) in the same year. Under the guidance of Ms Janice Chua during her primary school years, she participated in numerous performances, became a finalist in the Singapore Chinese Music Competition in 2020, and successfully gained admission into Dunman High School through the Direct School Admission (DSA) scheme.
Before completing Primary 6, Jing En had already passed her Grade 9 Dizi exam with distinction and was a key member of her school’s Chinese Orchestra. At Dunman High School, she joined the prestigious Dunman High Chinese Orchestra (DHSCO), where she studied under Mr Tay Soon Dee, principal Dizi of the City Chinese Orchestra (CCO), while continuing lessons with Ms Janice Chua to complete her diploma.
At 14, she earned a Diploma in Dizi with a Merit Award and performed the solo piece Busily Carting Grains in celebration of DHSCO’s Golden Jubilee. In March 2024, she traveled to Zhuhai, China, to perform with both DHSCO and CCO under the baton of Dr Tay Teow Kiat, a distinguished music director instrumental in shaping Chinese music in Singapore.
Currently, Jing En is a Higher Music student, continuing her musical journey under the tutelage of Mr Yin Zhi Yang, Dizi principal of the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO). With over a decade of performance experience at various events and opening ceremonies, she remains a dedicated and passionate Dizi performer.
