Joyce first started learning the Dizi at Serangoon Secondary School's Chinese Orchestra, and was appointed Woodwind Sectional Leader.
Subsequently, Joyce sought the tutelage from several teachers like Mr See Seow Pang and Mr Lim Sin Yeo.
In 2002 and 2003, Joyce was selected for the Chinese Orchestra Music Camp organized by the CCA Branch and also joined Chengsan Chinese Orchestra (CSCO) in the later part of the year.
In 2004, Joyce was selected for the Singapore Youth Chinese Orchestra (SYCO) and has been a member of the orchestra till now.
In 2005, Joyce sought the tutelage of Mr Tony Ang Ting Leong and under his guidance; Joyce obtained distinction certificate in NAFA Dizi Grade 9 Practical Exam and a distinction certificate in NUS Centre for the Arts in Dizi Diploma Practical Exam in 2007.
Joyce was also appointed Secretary of the Singapore Polytechnic Chinese Orchestra (SPCO).In 2006, Joyce represented SPCO to perform on Star Cruise Virgo and SYCO to perform in Tainan's Chi Shi Arts Festival. In 2008, Joyce was awarded the certificate of distinction from the National Chinese Music Competition, for coming in as the first for the Dizi Open Category under the tutelage of Mr Tony Ang.
She also graduated with a Diploma in Music and Audio Technology with Merit from Singapore Polytechnic. In June 2010, Joyce performed with ICO at the Aula Simfonia Concert Hall in Jarkata.
In 2010, Joyce performed her Dizi solo piece "Xiao Ba Lu Yong Chuang Feng Suo Xian" with SYCO under the guidance of Mr Lim. In 2012, Joyce performed a Dizi concerto piece "Joyful" with the SCO in the SCO Marathon Finale Concert.
Joyce graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with Merit majoring in Theatre Studies at the National University of Singapore in 2012 and is currently the Dizi Sectional Principal of the SYCO, Treasurer of Nanyang (CO) Ensemble, and is also coaching Dizi at various schools (Anglican High, Woodgrove Pri, Pasir Ris Crest Sec).
