Adrian Wee is the recipient of the National Arts Council Arts Scholarship (Overseas) and studied the erhu at the China Conservatory of Music with Professor Zhang Zunlian. As a soloist, he is a keen advocate of new music and has given many premieres in his recitals, more notably the Singapore premiere of Wang Jian Min’s Erhu Rhapsody No. 2.
At the Huayi Festival in 2010, he was selected to perform with renowned Chinese musicians such as Chen Leiji (guqin) and Du Cong (dizi). Since 2009, he has been representing Singapore in the ASEAN-Korea Traditional Orchestra. He was erhu principal in the first-prize ensembles for the National Chinese Music Competition and Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod Instrumental Folk Music Competition in 2008.
With an avid interest to experiment and develop the sonic possibilities of the erhu, he has undertaken inter-disciplinary collaborative projects with local artists such as Angela Liong and Dr Joyce Bee Tuan Koh.
