What are instrumental duet performances?

Duet instrumental performances is when two Chinese orchestra musical instruments play together to make music.

Sometimes a solo performance might sound a little dry. Add in another instrument and you can get one to play the accompaniment and the other the main melody. This gives the performance more depth and the performers can play music with more variations.

If you are on a budget but would like the music to sound fuller, a duet performance would be a good option. It is suitable as a background music or as a stand alone entertainment segment.

What pair of Chinese musical instruments are suitable?

A guzheng, yangqin, zhongruan or pipa should work well with any other instrument. Hence there are lots of different kinds of pairings you can choose from. (Subject to availability of the instrumentalists)

Essentially you can choose an instrument from group A to pair with an instrument in group B below.

Group A instruments: Guzheng, Yangqin, Pipa, Zhongruan
Group B instruments: Erhu, Dizi, Hulusi, Guzheng, Yangqin, Pipa, Zhongruan
