Western strings ensemble are aplenty but have you seen a Chinese Huqin strings ensemble?
Introducing StringWerkz, one of the few Huqin ensembles in Singapore, made up of many young and talented Huqin musicians.
StringWerkz comprises of 4 huqin performers and a cellist: Wong Qin Kai on the Gaohu, Shunta Goh and Chia Wan Hua on the Erhu, Rozie Hoong on the Zhonghu and Eunice Koh Kai En on the Cello.
All of them are graduates from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts majoring in their respective instrument and have won many awards in the bi-annual National Arts Council Chinese Music Competition ensemble category since 2002.
Together, they play an eclectic mix of different genres of music from Chinese classics, Chinese pop, to Western classical, English pop and even bosso nova.
